Browns Position Notes, and Final Round of OTAs Coming This Week

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

The final round of organized team activities are coming up this week, and will run from May 28th to May 31st. It will be a four-day session, as opposed to the two previous three-day sessions. Then, mandatory minicamp will commence the following week from June 4th to June 6th. After that, the next time we'll hear about the Browns won't be until training camp. Do you feel the season quickly approaching? I know I do!

While we're waiting for some more news (because there isn't much of it during this stretch of the offseason), let me go back and discuss some depth-chart related things from the previous OTA sessions. This information is all based on notes that Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal had:

  • OG: It didn't take long for Jason Pinkston to get some reps in the first-team offense, where he was lined up as left guard. John Greco moved over to right guard with the first-teamers, while Shawn Lauvao was with the second-teamers at left guard. Now, I don't want to read too much into something, but Greco has twice been reported playing with the ones, while Lauvao and Pinkston have seen action with the ones and twos.
  • OLB: This should have been picked up from Chudzinski's press conference, but Jabaal Sheard worked at left outside linebacker, while Paul Kruger worked at right outside linebacker. It is still expected that Sheard will be on the right with Kruger on the left during the regular season, but this was a case of just working players out at multiple positions.
  • CB: In two-cornerback sets on the first-team defense, Joe Haden and Buster Skrine were the starters. When there was a nickel set, Chris Owens came in to play the outside, while Skrine shifted to the slot. Rookie cornerback Leon McFadden, a third-round pick, only saw action with the second-team defense.
  • ST: The ABJ stated that special teams coordinator Chris Tabor relayed to them that CB Johnson Bademosi and CB Buster Skrine would be experimented with at the kick return position. We've seen Skrine there before, and he's shown some quickness. I think Travis Benjamin is better for a punt return role, but I wonder if he'll see any action there?
