A few days ago, the NFL released a new policy that will further restrict the type of bags that fans are allowed to bring into stadiums, effective with this year's preseason games. These policies will be enforced at FirstEnergy Stadium too:
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
When I have been to my last couple of games, I have brought a cinch bag because it was convenient to carry my binoculars, radio, phone, sunglasses, hat, and maybe a couple of other small things. Although it seems like the league has ruled out every bag based on the list above, they are allowing bags that are basically clear Ziplocs. Certain tote bags will be permitted as well, as you can see in the image from NFL.com above. The full list of permitted bags is outlined below:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12." (Official NFL team logo clear plastic tote bags will be available through club merchandise outlets or at nflshop.com), or
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
- Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.
Will this affect your gameday experience, or does it seem like a reasonable change? It seems like a slight inconvenience, but really, the alternatives should be accommodating enough for the type of items I would bring into a stadium.
