So, a busy week here in C-Town. I'm on vacation and have my German friend (by way of Beijing) in town. We've toured Downtown, played his second round of golf ever and of course, experienced his first NFL contest in person Thursday.
Fast forward to today. Another slow start after another night of Cleveland brewed beers (I have to show the German how it is done), followed by a trip to Little Italy for The Feast, a couple of beers on Whiskey Island and a stop on W.25th at Market Garden Brewery from some more of Cleveland's finest.
We finished a couple of rounds on the patio, my German friend went to pick up the tab in the bar while my friend that tagged along used the restroom. Only my wife and I remained on the patio. I was facing the wall and my wife had her back to the restaurant facing the alley that separates The West Side Market from Market Garden. She, as usual, was amusing herself by people watching over my shoulder. A group of guys had arrived that she had been referring to as "The Dudes", in reference to their frat boy appearance. She meant it in the context of "Bros", I'm sure. One of her comments was "This guy has the right idea, one ass cheek on each bar stool", and finally, "I wonder what these guys do for a living, they are all huge?" I looked over my shoulder, took a glance, looked back at my wife and said "That would be the Offensive Line of The Cleveland Browns".
I rotated around to her side of the table. There was Alex Mack in the center of the table, Gilkey to his right, and in His Glory, Joe Thomas to his left. I was mildly amused by the fact that they sat "in position" so to speak. I believe Pinkston and Luavo had their backs to me - notably, neither on crutches.
My wife was immediately excited and wanted a picture. I said "No way, leave them alone". We got our things together, and walked out passing their table. As I passed by, I couldn't resist and stopped next to Joe Thomas at the end of the table. I said "I don't want to bother you guys, but to quote the movie Airplane - Good Luck And We're All Counting On You". Joesus got a good laugh out of that, the table all said thank you, and we were on our way. Great ending to a really fun day.
