NFL Combine 2014: Ken Whisenhunt Asked About Browns' Coaching Search

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Did Joe Banner really disregard Ken Whisenhunt's staff in an interview?

As I predicted yesterday, despite the fact that Ken Whisenhunt is the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, at the NFL Combine, he was asked several questions about not being the Cleveland Browns' head coach. Whisenhunt steered clear of disclosing what exactly was said by Joe Banner during the interview process, but somewhat shot down the report that he questioned the level of assistant coaches he could bring:

(On interviewing with the Cleveland Browns and "what went wrong"): "From what perspective? (laughter)"

(On describing the negotiations with Cleveland): "Well, I’m honored to be considered to work with the Browns. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Haslam and that organization. I’ve played against them, competed against them a number of years. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity. I can’t speak to anything other than I’m honored to be considered there and I wish them the best."

(On if Joe Banner had objections with the coaching staff he wanted to put together): "He didn’t specifically talk about that with me."

(On interest level with the Browns): "I can’t comment on that because there’s a lot of things that go on as far as, you know, it’s just one of the things that you just don’t want to, there’s just nothing really to say about it. I ended up in Tennessee. I’m happy to be here and excited about my opportunity."

Keep it up, Cleveland media -- scrounge for those headlines and quotes all you can!
