Ravens Retain TE Dennis Pitta; What Does it Mean for Jordan Cameron?

USA TODAY Sports

With the Ravens signing Dennis Pitta to a new deal, we take a look at how it might play in to what Jordan Cameron receives in the future.

On Friday, it was announced that the Baltimore Ravens signed tight end Dennis Pitta to a 5-year contract worth $32 million. Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider posted a couple more details associated with Pitta's contract:

Chances are, Cleveland Browns tight end Jordan Cameron will be looking for a more lucrative deal. Cameron is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and both he and Pitta were taken in the fourth round of the NFL Draft (Pitta came out in 2010, while Cameron came out in 2011). Pitta was injured almost all of last season, but he basically earned his paycheck from 2012, when he posted 61 catches for 669 yards and 7 touchdowns.

With a shaky quarterback situation last year, Cameron had a breakout season with 80 catches for 917 yards and 7 touchdowns. In anticipation of Cameron having another solid season, with all of the cap space they have, it would be wise for the Browns to try to extend Cameron before he's close to hitting the open market.
