Ugh. Just the two names make me cringe. Maybe if this were 2007 I would be down. The thing is...Schaub could probably contribute. He would be familiar already with the offense, and a change of scenery(scenery=Josh Gordon) might rekindle his career. I'm still voting no though.
These rumors are seemingly everywhere. Just google "schaub grossman" and like ten different headlines come up that also include the word "Browns." But I have to believe that Schaub's best days are behind him after that record setting 2013 season of throwing more pick sixes than anyone, ever. And Grossman's best days? Well I can't remember that long ago. Bringing in either of these guys would constitute the most uninspired and yawn-provoking move of Farmer's brief GM career.
One possible alternative here is Ryan Fitzpatrick. Cut today by the Titans in favor of god knows why Charlie Whitehurst, who will serve as the backup to can't stay healthy or complete 60% of his passes Jake Locker, he is available as far as I know. I believe the Bears or the Lions will probably take a shot at getting him to be a back-up, but I don't see why the Browns don't lob a call in his direction.
I've been harping on quarterback depth all off-season and still am not comfortable going into September with a 21 year old rookie and a 28 year old career back-up with 7 NFL TD passes. Fitzpatrick has thrown for more TD's than interceptions in each of the last 4 years and has started 54 of his teams 64 games during that time. He also moves around in the pocket rather adequately.
The money shouldn't be an issue. He's a Harvard guy and seemingly a cagey vet at this point. He could bring a bit of competition, depth, and stability to the Browns most dire position of need. Very interested in the poll results here...what do the fans think?
