Brian Hoyer Says He's Almost Medically Cleared

Hoyer continues to represent himself as the Browns' starting quarterback, but only time will tell whether or not that carries over into the regular season.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a torn ACL on October 3, 2013, and when the team begins their offseason workout program on April 7, 2014, he expects to be medically cleared by doctors. In a discussion with Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 the Fan on Sunday at the Ohio Sports Collectors Convention, Hoyer said that he just has to clear one more step before he's able to participate in activities with the team:

Hoyer still has to meet with doctors one more time to get medically cleared, which he doesn’t see as a problem, and then its full go. Weight training and meetings with coaches begin on April 7 and Hoyer is anxious to put the rehab behind him and turn his attention and focus to football.

Per Ruiter, Hoyer said that one of the reasons he was ahead of schedule with his rehab is because he pushed himself, knowing the opportunity he would have to showcase himself to the new regime prior to the NFL Draft:

Hoyer has pushed himself hard in rehab to be ready for not just the beginning of offseason workouts but the voluntary veteran minicamp scheduled for April 29-May 1.

"I saw the opportunity that presented itself," Hoyer said. "I knew we had a minicamp before the draft and I really wanted to push myself to be able to participate as much as I could. With the new staff and GM, [I wanted] to show these guys that I’ll be ready to go."

That will be the big decision for this franchise over the next two months: Hoyer, or a quarterback at No. 4 overall?
