I know a lot of people here would say "hey we need to take a QB with the #4 and nothing else. But there are a few here who would be happy taking someone else at a position of less need but more impact.. and no Sammy Watkins isn't who i'm talking about. Something i would like to see the front office do is something i may get ripped for but i will put it out there anyways.
What i am talking about is trying to have 3 first round picks this year. We have the extra picks to maneuver around a little bit, and i think it would work well in our favor. i don't much about pick compensation charts but there always seems to be a team who can move up or down and the compensation seems to be WTF kind of moment, but for now hear me out.
Lets say the first three picks go something like this: Houston takes either TB or JFF or Clowney, then St. Louis takes either Robinson or Matthews or Clowney( if Houston passes on him), then Jacksonville decides to either go with one of the other offensive lineman or the QB's.. so we have to make a decision, and with the #4 pick the browns select Kalil Mack: DE/OLB from buffalo. now I know that a lot of people will say WHY? But in all honesty, he is a hell of a player who can not only rush around the edge but can also drop back into coverage pretty good. I think he is more of a natural LB who could play outside or could even slide inside, and he has the prototype LB size to do either: 6'3 240 lb's. But I would say this would be a smart pick at this spot because I think Kruger is over-payed and overrated. i have heard a lot of people say he only does well with someone else on the other side to take the pressure off.. enter Mack. as far as Sheard goes, i think he is just about average and may never improve.
Enter the fact that we drafted Mingo last year,( he is still raw and may improve, but may not) but who better to have at OLB's then Mack and Mingo if he improves? Sooo....... Here is where the THIRD first round pick comes in. Lets say Bortles and Carr are both sitting there( or even one for that matter) say around 12-16, we hope to try and grab one before someone swoops em up. We trade say either one of our 3rd round picks- maybe a 5th and a 2nd next year to move up into that area of the draft to select one. Then with the 26th pick our options are wide open as far as either WR/G/CB... you name it, we could definitely open up our whole draft from that point on to select good talent and talent to develop from round 2 on( meaning a 2nd a 3rd two 4th's a 6th and a 7th) I would say this would give us a chance to get premier talent plus the talent we know needs to be developed while also helping both sides of the ball at the same time. Pick apart if you must( and yes i know some of you will nitpick this scenario to death) but i am thinking this could be a best case scenario for our BROWNS!!!! have fun and enjoy!!
