Alex Mack expected to sign offer sheet from Jacksonville Jaguars

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars might be signing Alex Mack to an offer sheet after all.

The Cleveland Browns may have gotten just what they were hoping for as one team appears to have been what they'd describe as "dumb" enough to sign center Alex Mack to an offer sheet.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that team is none other than the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to league sources, Mack is expected to sign the five-year deal by Friday, after which point the Browns will then have five days to either match the offer or let Mack go to Jacksonville without any compensation.

Schefter also said that Mack would prefer to play for the Jags, according to sources close him. But, of course, due to the nature of the transition tag, that won't be his or Jacksonville's choice to make. However, Mack's agent can still attempt to craft a deal that will be hard for the Browns to swallow.

The deal will be designed to make it as difficult as possible for the Browns to match, sources told ESPN. If the Browns do not match, they will not receive any compensation for Mack, regarded by many as the NFL's premier center. The deal will make Mack the NFL's highest-paid center by a wide margin, according to sources.
