Hey there, I'm from Field Gulls. And I'm just wondering what people over here at Dawgs by Nature think of Joe Haden. Not his recent activity off the field, or any activity off the field for that matter, but just him as a player.
With the recent debates about who is the best cornerback in the game, I've been increasingly interested in what makes a corner back good. I've looked closer at Haden, Sherman, and Peterson in particular (this may have something to do with the fact that I don't have access to the more restricted domains of PFF, and they posted this article on those three).
Just for fun, and for comparison, here are some of the stats for the three corners in question, along with their combine measurements:
Sherman: 6-3, 195, 4.56 40, 16 bench, 38 vert, 125 broad, 6.82 3-cone 47.3 passer rating allowed, 8 ints, 18 passed defensed, 1 TD, 38 tkls, covered #1 receiver 27%
Peterson: 6', 219, 4.34 40, 15 bench, 38 vert, 126 broad, 6.58 3-cone 91.3 passer rating allowed, 3 ints, 13 passes defensed, 40 tkls, covered #1 receiver 55%
Haden: 5-11, 193, 4.57 40, 125 broad (no other data available) 75.2 passer rating allowed, 4 ints, 20 passes defensed, 1 TD, 43 tkls, covered #1 receiver 65%
I didn't include Peterson's return numbers because that's not part of the debate. If I were choosing a PLAYER that I like more, it would. But this is about who's better at covering an opponent's receiver.
I do have my own opinion, but I don't want to influence this article and the discussion that follows (not until the debate starts anyway).
So go ahead, let the battle begin!
