A couple of days ago, the NFL announced that the Atlanta Falcons would be the team featured on HBO's Hard Knocks in 2014. The show will consist of five episodes, which will begin airing on August 5th at 10:00 PM ET, featuring on- and off-the-field storylines for the Falcons.
The Falcons aren't the most exciting team in the NFL, but there are a few reasons they are a compelling choice. First, this will be one of the more prestigious quarterbacks featured in the history of the show. Atlanta will also face the adversity of having to replace tight end Tony Gonzalez as a weapon in the office, and hoping that the tandem of Julio Jones and Roddy White can return healthy. This is a team that unexpectedly went from 13-3 in 2013 to 4-12 in 2014 -- how will they respond?
If the Browns ever do Hard Knocks in the future, you can see the type of distraction it might create among the players:
A 30-person NFL Films crew will be at the Falcons’ training camp at team headquarters in Flowery Branch, GA, shooting more than 1,500 hours of footage over the course of the series. Camera and sound crews will have unencumbered access to the players’ and coaches’ meeting rooms, training rooms, living quarters and practice fields.
