In the latest salvo that has been shot across Johnny Manziel's bough. The Browns may be signaling that they themselves are worried that not only do they believe that Hoyer could be "the guy" but that Manziel may not be mature enough or responsible enough to takeover the reigns of this team anytime soon.
As soon as Manziel was drafted everyone from the owner to the head coach to some of the players told Manziel that nothing would be handed to him and that he needed to act like a rookie and have to demonstrate that he was willing to work hard and comport himself like a leader if he wanted to be not only the starting quarterback but the face of the franchise. Up to this point Manziel has not demonstrated either, and now we learn that Brian Hoyer is in contract extension talks to keep him in Cleveland for the next several years. Yes, yes, both the team and fans alike will just say that this has nothing to do with the way Manziel has behaved on his off hours since he was drafted in May. But I believe to the contrary. Both Mike Pettine and Jimmy Haslam strike me as no nonsense guys when it comes to being a professional. If someone comes across as immature and irresponsible before they have proven anything at the NFL level, then that person will be riding the bench until he gets that message.
