Ideal Scenarios

Ideal 1st Round Outcomes

1. Zeke falls to #8 and the Browns DO NOT trade down and take him instead

Of all of the possible players to come away with today, I think Zeke would make me the most excited and satisfied. This draft should be all about picking the Best Available player and, IF it happens, Zeke at #8 is that. Is RB the biggest need? No, but this will be the first pick of what has become a complete reset in Cleveland. The first pick will be the face and foundation of the Hue Jackson Era and there is no better player in this draft to be the face of the New Browns than Zeke.

2. Zeke was taken prior to #8 and the Browns trade down. Pick Coleman.

Picking at 8, I really doubt the Browns can pick up the most impactful player at that spot as they will likely be picking up the scraps left behind from the first 7 teams. This could mean Bosa, but I'm actually not sold on him and I don't think a tackle (Tunsil, Stanley, Conklin, etc.) is the right value at 8. I DO think an explosive and athletic offensive talent is needed and I DO think we need to come away with at least 1 really good WR. Of all of the receivers available, Coleman strikes me as the one with the highest ceiling and game changing potential.

3. By a Miracle, Jalen Ramsey falls to 8.

This is unlikely to say the least, though it was the outcome of the NFL Live Mock Draft. A guy can dream... right? This secondary worries me to say the least. I like Campbell, but aside from him Joe has been injured and inconsistent, Poyer is a good place holder at best, and Williams has not been consistently solid at all. Jalen Ramsey changes everything.

Regarding the QB

First things first, I DON'T WANT Paxton Lynch. His size is absolutely enticing, but not only do I think he's too much of a project, I just think he's been overrated. I was quite high on him during the season so I took to watching his Bowl Game to see him for myself. He while he turned it around, he looked wayyy to flustered for a First Rounder playing against Western Kentucky. I might be wrong, but I think has over-inflated confidence and he could be another late 1st Round Bust.

My problem with Conner Cook... I simply don't think he will be a positive influence on the locker room. His personality comes across as selfish and abrasive and the Browns need positive minded players who will help build a positive atmosphere in Cleveland and, regarding the Quarterback, they need someone willing to sit for a while and learn.

That means that surprisingly, I'm actually the most interested in Hackenberg. I think it is clear that he has the athletic potential, he demonstrated that in his freshman year. I think that the introduction of the James Franklin system hurt Hackenburg and helped the PSU RB's and he played behind a SAD O-line. He is NOT day 1 ready AT ALL, but with two seasons of learning under a Guru like Hue Jackson, Hackenberg could really be an outstanding QB.

Later Rounds

I haven't followed this years draft class and process as much as previous years, so I don't know the later prospects as well as I have in previous years. That said, one standout player, to me, is UMass's Tajae Sharp. I watched the Toledo-UMass game last season and Sharp was a one-man team, just an outstanding wide receiver and Frohnapfel just kept throwing and throwing to him and Sharp was always open. That game was close because of Sharp and Sharp alone.
