2010 NFL Draft
Cleveland Browns - Undrafted Free Agent Signings
After the draft officially ends, teams can start going crazy to sign anyone that didn't get drafted. If there is a certain player that the scouting department thought was a "gem" that no one else would draft, they'll grab them right away. So, who have the Browns signed thus far? Check it out after the jump...
Cleveland Browns 2010 NFL Draft Day 3 - Open Thread
Today is the final day of the NFL Draft, featuring Rounds 4-7. The draft should kick off at 10:00 AM Saturday morning. For reference, here are the picks the Cleveland Browns have remaining:
- 5th Round: No. 160 Overall
- 6th Round: No. 177 Overall
- 6th Round: No.186 Overall
Have fun discussing the final day of the draft! I might not be here until noon, which may be in time for the sixth round.
NFL Draft 2010: As Third Round Comes to a Close, Cleveland Browns Take OG Shawn Lauvao
With the 92nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected OG Shawn Lauvao from Arizona State. With the departures of offensive guards Rex Hadnot and Hank Fraley in the offseason, adding to the depth of our tremendous offensive line sounds fine.
It's impossible to project whether Lauvao is starting material one day, but many teams end up finding some solid linemen in the middle rounds. If Lauvao ends up panning out at right guard in the future, maybe we go after a right tackle in next year's draft.
NFL Draft 2010: Patience Pays Off? Cleveland Browns Draft Colt McCoy in 3rd Round
Time and time again, the actual NFL Draft show why the hundreds of mock drafts end up being horribly inaccurate. QB Colt McCoy was picked by many as a lock to go to the Cleveland Browns at the beginning of the second round. Instead, the Browns passed on him. Twice. They didn't pass on him the third time around.
With his Texas coach announcing the pick, with the 85th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Browns selected McCoy. Browns fans live at the event jumped for joy, and most fans here on Dawgs By Nature could barely contain themselves. For all the shock of passing up McCoy for S T.J. Ward and RB Montario Hardesty, suddenly it all seemed worth it. McCoy seems like a steal in the third round -- he fits out West Coast Offense and he's incredibly accurate.
Cleveland Browns 2010 NFL Draft Day 2 - Open Thread (Part 3)
This draft thread is for the discussion of round three. After the Browns traded up into the second round to draft Hardesty, here are the two remaining picks the Cleveland Browns have in the third round:
- 3rd Round: No. 85 overall
- 3rd Round: No. 92 overall
QB Colt McCoy is still on the board, and DE Corey Wootton is another player I'd like to target. Discuss round three in this thread!
NFL Draft 2010: Cleveland Browns Trade Up to No. 59 for RB Montario Hardesty
The Cleveland Browns traded up to get back into the second round at the 59th overall pick. As soon as the deal was made, everyone thought it would be Colt McCoy. However, instead we were thrown a curveball when the front office took Tennessee RB Montario Hardesty.
What did the Browns give up to move up to No. 59 overall? According to NFL.com, we traded...
- a Third Rounder (No. 71 overall)
- a Fifth Rounder (No. 134 overall)
- a Fifth Rounder (No. 146 overall)
I don't think any fans saw this one coming. Sure, we might have taken a flier on a running back in a later round, but we moved up to make sure we got Hardesty on board. I can't imagine RB Jerome Harrison not being the starter, but with so many teams deploying two-running back systems lately, that has to be what we'll do here. That means RB Chris Jennings and RB James Davis have slim chances at making the roster in my book, because RB/FB Peyton Hillis will be a good versatile hybrid back.
Hardesty had a very good year with Tennessee last year, rushing for 1,345 yards on 282 carries (a 4.8 YPC average) and rushed for 13 touchdowns.
Cleveland Browns 2010 NFL Draft Day 2 - Open Thread (Part 2)
If you missed part one of today's game thread where fans reacted to the selection of T.J. Ward, go here. Otherwise, continue the discussion on the remainder of round two here. Depending on how many comments we get in this one, I'll see if I have to open another thread for round three.
As of this post, the Jimmy Clausen fall continues. Who knows -- maybe Clausen or McCoy will be available in the third round.
NFL Draft 2010: In a Surprise, Cleveland Browns Draft Safety T.J. Ward at No. 38
You know what's funny about the draft? The discussions leading up to it.
For the past month or so, Cleveland Browns fans were praying that S Eric Berry wall fall to them in the first round. We almost began believing he was already going to be a member of our team. The Chiefs put a dagger in that by taking Berry fifth overall.
The discussion regarding the second round involved taking a quarterback, primarily Colt McCoy. With Jimmy Clausen falling yesterday out of the first round, the overnight discussions amongst fans and the media was, "McCoy or Clausen?"
But then, with the 38th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns drafted Oregon safety T.J. Ward.
This is the type of pick that elicits a "what the ___?" reaction as soon as the name is announced. It might be a reach, but because the pick was not made in the first round, it's the type of deal I think we can live with. Before we criticize Ward, we need to learn more about the kid. I'm not at all surprised that we went for a position of need. Looking up-and-down our roster, we desperately needed a starting safety. Ward is no guarantee to start, but we have our first "candidate."
One thing is known about Ward: he's a hard hitter.
If anyone here has seen Ward play before and would like to comment on his abilities, please do so!
