Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior

Steelers linebacker James Farrior has a word of warning for Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.

"He better have his head on a swivel," Farrior said in a conference call from Pittsburgh on Wednesday. "Every time we go up against those guys, I'll be looking for him."

Winslow was not available Wednesday to respond to Farrior's not-so-subtle threat. He will get his turn today. Whether Winslow talks is up to him, but the feud between Winslow and Farrior is just one part of the drama building toward the game Sunday at Heinz Field. The rift can be traced to the game in Pittsburgh last year when Winslow was flagged for a blind-side block on Farrior late in the game after the whistle blew. It prompted former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter to use a slur for a homosexual, which prompted the NFL to fine Porter.

Add a little more fuel to the fire. The intensity is building...this game can't come soon enough.

And the Mini Pnny guy calls us classless?

I actually hope no Brown talks before the game. How about the rest of y'all?

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
I am glad Farrior put Winslow on notice. This rivalry is in desperate need of trash talk and threats. While I don't think any of the Browns have any room to talk after Week 1's loss, I definitely wouldn't mind someone speaking up as it would help re-energize the rivalry.

This is not like the Colts-Pats "rivalry", which is totally contingent on both of the teams being high quality. When one/both of the teams eventually declines in quality and/or one of the teams starts dominating the other - the rivalry will cease to exist.

The Browns-Steelers rivalry is a rivalry based on an inherent hate between the two cities/teams. While having two competitive teams certainly raises the level of the rivalry, the the difference of quality between each of the teams (as shown in our recent record against the Steelers) does not eliminate the rivalry.

The biggest shame would be if this rivalry turned into the kiss-up fest that was the week prior to the Colts-Pats game. I am glad that Farrior decided to talk some smack; it is what this rivalry is dependent on.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
I never called the Browns or Browns fans classless...be careful what you accuse people of. I insulted one commenter on this site because he deliberately called for Hines to get a concussion. That, I cannot forgive.

All I keep hearing from Browns fans is "Hines better watch out." "Hines is a dick." Hines shouldn't have put that hit on Holly." "I hope Hines gets a concussion." But you fail to look at the blindside hit Winslow put on Farrior. I'm glad Chris included that part of the quote he used. Read that part again:

...when Winslow was flagged for a blind-side block on Farrior late in the game after the whistle blew.

Sounds kinda like that Holly hit in my opinion.

Chris was extremely classy in that case. He could've just given you fans the first part of the quote and fueled your misguided rage.

The truth of the matter is this goes on throughout all of football. Y'all keep running your mouths about Hines as if he is the only one in the league playing physical, but you refuse to so much as glance at your own players when they do the exact same thing.

Keep calling out Hines because he hit one of your players, but chastise Farrior for doing the exact same thing (when it happened to him). If you're going to try and argue, at least make yourself look intelligent.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Sorry, that last part should read:

Keep calling out Hines because he hit one of your players and chastise Farrior for doing the exact same thing (when it happened to him) but fail to call out Winslow. He's no better than Ward or Farrior, then.

Other shit on my mind right now.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
ur right that was a late shot... and Winslow is not better than Ward for Farrior.  I mean Winlsow hits guys late all the time and waits for conerbacks to look the other way before laying them out just about every game.  Oh and his pit bulls kill mini ponies every week for sport.... oh wait nevermind he doesn't do any of that.

My apologies for making a specific comment of yours about one poster into a generalization. You are right, I was wrong.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Once again here is the difference.  Hines Ward celebrates when he hurts people.  That is the difference.

Hines classy as always

Hines Ward is nothing more than a coward that waits for a chance to take a cheap shot.  That is why he was voted one of the dirtest players in the NFL by his peers.  Yeah, your right, Winslow is the dirty player...

Hines being Hines

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
That's amazing! R Harrison must be really dirty. (Plus, he cheats with what he puts IN his own body, too.)

Hines = dirtiest offensive skill player. Cool!

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Kosar,

How about watch the Winslow hit again, and tell me who celebrates their cheap shots? I uploaded the video to my site so its that much easier for you to find. Just follow the link that Chris was kind enough to provide on the Steelers Blogs Oppose DBN post.

Or, here is my post, including the Holly hit vid and the Winslow hit vid.

Watch and see who is dirty

Eerily similar. And yet you refuse to chastise Winslow for doing the exact same thing. Winslow was even farther away from the play than Ward was. Pretty cowardly in my book.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Why would he chastise Winslow for the hit? Winslow is a Brown and Kosar is a Brown's fan. Fans stick up for their team and chastise others (especially rivals); it's sports fandom at its very core.

Are you saying that a fan shouldn't be able to criticize another team's player for being dirty if that fan refuses to recognize the fact his own team has a dirty player? Since when were sports fans expected to be unbiased when it comes to talking about the other team? It's the very essence of being a sports fan.

To suggest that Kosar can't chastise Ward without chastising Winslow is ludicrous. He is a Browns fan on a BROWNS board, what do you expect?

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Completely understood, and I don't mean to be the asshole anti-fan who comes onto the opposing team's site just to make waves. But someone needs to set the record straight so personal vendettas don't get passed along as God-written truth.

When you're clearing stating a difference when there is no difference to be stated, it comes off as hypocritical.

Once again here is the difference.  Hines Ward celebrates when he hurts people.  That is the difference.

It is not the difference. It is an excuse to bitch at Hines and the Steelers, is all. After his hit on Farrior, Winslow is clearly seen taunting the Pittsburgh sideline. Watch the video. I'm not just saying this with the hopes of being accepted by your community. Its right there on tape.

I'm a Steeler homer by birth and will be the first to admit it. However, I will be the first to call out another "Steelers fan" for openly using excuses disguised as legitimate arguments.

I don't care that Kosar is a Browns homer and looks at the world through Brown and Orange glasses. But finishing the "argument" with complete denial masquerading as fact is alarming.

Yeah, your right, Winslow is the dirty player...

Yes, he is.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Where is Winslow celebrating the hit?  Because his arms are swinging?  I have looked at  both hits.  Winslow hit Farrior and walked away.  Once again, that is the difference.  You can try and tell me that Winslow is clearly seen taunting the Steelers sideline, but it is not there.  When you raise your arm and stand over a guy that is knocked out, that is taunting.

Don't get me wrong, Winslow got and deserved a flag for his hit.  It was a cheapshot and he deserved everything he had to pay for it.  But Winslow has not shown a pattern of delivering cheap shots.  Hines Ward has.  When Hines injured Earl Little and STOOD over him, Bill Cowher had to appologize for Hines because Ward wouldn't.  Oh and Ward was fined $5,000 for that hit also.

Hines proud of injuring Little

What about his PEERS believing that Ward is dirty?  I noticed you mention nothing of this.  That isn't from biased fans like you and I, but his fellow players.  This is the most telling thing to me.

You will never see Hines Ward as a dirty player until he plays for someone else, just like all Steeler fans loved Joey Porter and defended him until he put on a different jersey.  Until then, enjoy watching Hines Ward hide out and cheapshots when he can...

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
You're going to tell me you're blind to Winslow hitting Farrior farther away from the play than Ward was on his hit on Holly then looking over at the Steelers sideline as if to say "look at that," not taunting? And his arm was just swinging, not pointing? And his head bobbing towards the Steelers sideline doesn't show that he was running his mouth. I'll use your own words...you'll never see Winslow as a dirty player til he plays for a different team. It only takes one shot to injure someone, so your point about recurring hits classifying dirtiness is moot. So if Farrior was permanently paralyzed from that hit, Winslow wouldn't have been dirty because he's been in the league less than Ward.

And about that whole bs Sports Illustrated poll...did you read the bottom?

Chiefs T Kyle Turley was fifth (4.1%), even though he missed all of 2004 and '05 (back injury)

But the guys who took the poll weren't biased? They don't hold personal grudges? That's like me sponsoring a poll saying who the current enemy #1 is against the Pirates, and everyone voting for Sid Bream. Just because the poll was taken by football players doesn;t mean they aren't holding personal vendettas against someone. They are just as biased as Johnny Fan. Don't put them on a pedestal.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
One more thing before I go on my merry way. I'd love to stick around and hang out with you guys all year, but this is more contact with the Browns than I ever wanted in my life. I'm sure, as Browns fans, you can understand.

Regarding that SI poll, how long will you keep living in the past and keep referring to that poll? Ooooh...let's continually refer to old polls to make current points. Myself, I like to live in the present. I'd like to think <s>all</s> most Steelers fans do. Here's a pretty telling stat about this current season.

The All Flag team

Woodson, Sims, Gallery and Taylor already have hit double digits in penalties this season.

Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens (eight), Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow (seven) and Cardinals tight end Leonard Pope (seven) jump out from a list heavy on linemen and cornerbacks. No other receivers or tight ends have more than five penalties.

That "no other receivers or tight ends" part includes Ward, I'm guessing. Yeah, I'm sure some of those were false starts or non-dirty flags, but if Ward was/is as dirty as you claim he is, then I'd assume his name would pop up somewhere on an All Flag team. Just sayin'.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
Your use of the evidence is faulty. The article clearly delineates a section based only on personal fouls. Neither Winslow nor Ward appears there.

Regardless of the pissing contest this thread has kind of become, I'm impressed that the Pittsburgh contingent was so classy throughout. I mean that seriously. I used to think the best export from that city was emphysema, but you guys have surpassed that dubious standard.

Hey, I was wondering: why do all major Pittsburgh sports franchises (Pirates, Steelers, "Hockey Sucks" Penguins) share the same color scheme?

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
because black and yellow are the colors of the city flag of Pittsburgh.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
I think it's actually really cool for the fans that all the teams have the same color scheme.

Does any other city have that? I don't think so.

Re: Winslow Put on Notice by Farrior
As for the actual game, by far the dirtiest play was a Stiller defender stomping on a Brown after a good play, resulting in a "taunting" penalty.

I also like the defenders getting in Edwards's face after a great catch that ended up being called a touchdown, when they had done nothing to stop him.

Classless, as always.
