LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland

After hearing rumors of his arrival since the day of free agency, linebacker Clark Haggans is finally scheduled to visit with the Browns today and tomorrow, according to agent Jeff Sperbeck.

Haggans recorded 32.5 sacks the past six years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he's not too bad of a tackler either. Playing opposite of Kamerion Wimbley would be an upgrade over Antwan Peek and Willie McGinest. I wrote an article last week about needing depth at the linebacker position and in the secondary still. I think a guy who's had years of experience in the Steelers' 3-4 system, and is almost guaranteed a little over five sacks a year, sounds like a pretty good deal.

And, although he wasn't necessarily an "X-factor" in the Browns-Steelers rivalry, any little edge or moment when Haggans has the chance to take down Ben Roethlisberger should sound satisfying to any Browns fan.

Since Haggans has already visited with quite a few teams, and since the Browns lost out on Chaun Thompson (signed with the Texans), I wouldn't be too surprised if a deal is announced in the coming days.

Oh thank God an actual-factual decent LB. One can only hope.

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Agreed, but I envision Steelers fans mocking us saying that we are picking up their unwanted players, which should at least enrage me momentarily.

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Definitely...in fact, I'm pretty sure I heard it already from some Pittsburgh site when free agency began.

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
But...when we beat them with their "unwanted players" they wont have much to say then

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Have fun with our used LB. I'm sure it will work out great for you, just like it did with Willie McG!!
See a pattern with when Pittsburgh tosses out a good LB?
Kendrel Bell- Off to the Chiefs, never heard of again.
Joey Porter- Off to the Dolphins. Got one "freebee mercy sack" of Ben, because Ben felt bad for him being on a 1 and 15 team.
Greg Lloyd- Ripped you guys up for years, left the Steelers, never heard from again.

Hmmmm.... pattern??

I will give you guys props for keeping "The Moose from Scappoose". Didn't think you had the balls. I saw that guy play highschool football here in the Portland area, and you could tell then that he was somethin special....

Go Steelers!!! Keep on suckin' Browns fans!!

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
If I recall Joey Porter also had an INT off Ben in a near loss to the 1-15 Dolphins.

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
It's "Horse Balls." "Moose from Scappoose" is so very blase.
At least I wasn't born in Denver

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Typical Dawg... bashing on a good thing when you have it (when's the last time you had a pro bowl QB??) and wishing for something better.
I can't wait till you guys run Derek out of there and get Quinn under center. He'll fall flat on his face and y'all will throw biscuits at him and whine that you want B Kosar back!

Keep it real Dawgs!!!

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
"Horse Balls" is not bashing him. That's an actual nickname that caught on mid-way through last season after someone had an article on DeadSpin about it...

For television purposes though, I think announcers are obligated to use the one that the FCC would deem as less profane :-x

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
I guess the Steelers want to keep only LB's who slap around women...

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Sound policy- keeps 'em aggressive and mean.
I think it's better than the Browns policy of only keeping LBs that know how to quilt and have at least 5 petunias in their personal flower garden.

Different strokes for different folks.

Oh by the way, we don't like WR's that hit women, so if you're interested in WIlson, he's been cut for just that. Maybe he can teach your LBs how to be mean.

Go Steelers!!! Keep on suckin' Browns fans!!

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
That doesn't sound very mean. William Green was stabbed when he was on the Browns making him much tougher than any Steeler.

He resigned with the Broncos.

Re: LB Clark Haggans Set to Visit Cleveland
Wrong Sapp.  Bennie Sapp left Cleveland with a contract offer.  His agent said that the Browns are in the lead for his services.  He would be the dime corner and play special teams.  Nothing special.
