Gruden to Mallett: "You know what a blogger is? ...They all tell you what a dumbass you are, because they're just so negative" -Rosenthal
By the way, one of my Bucs peeps tells me that the word around the Bucs is that Gruden could be going to Notre Dame to replace Charlie Weis. Sounds a little farfetched, but as the theory goes: The school will buy out Weis as soon as he signs his recruiting class, in two or three weeks, and hire Gruden. Heard from someone close to the Notre Dame program that there's a weird vibe around the football offices. Hmmm.
Tip to Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen: You messed up in one huge way this season. If you were going to enter the Brett Favre sweepstakes (and we know you did), you HAD to get him. You didn't and it ruined Garcia and, ultimately, your season. Decide early on if Donovan McNabb or Matt Cassel is your flavor of the month. Then go out and make certain you get him.
"When you talk about what they had coming back, and then you throw in the likes of a (Jonathan) Vilma, he's a ringleader," Gruden said. "He's a great linebacker. And Sedrick Ellis is a top-10 pick. We already have tremendous respect for Will Smith. And I didn't even bring up (Bobby) McCray, the fine pass rusher they got from Jacksonville. So they're going to have a very good football team. They brought in a number of corners. So they're going to be outstanding, I think, potentially, this season."
