A Look Ahead to the Offseason
Now that Brady Quinn is out for the season I decided to look at what the Browns offense needed to change this offseason. It started out a lot smaller but kind of took off on me. I will try and do a defense look in the next couple of days if everyone would like.

Should Jamal Lewis lose his job also?
Sorry for the length, but I wanted to get a point across.
Last night watching the game, my brother (an avid Browns fan also) and I discussed if Jamal Lewis was getting a pass for being just an average RB this year. After all, most fans were just waiting for DA to be pulled, yet I have not heard a peep about Jamal Lewis getting benched.
Last night Jamal Lewis ran for 60 yards on 19 carries against the 26th ranked run defense in the NFL. A 3.2 YPC average. That sucks. After all this is a defense that let Larry Johnson run for 200. Sammy Morris went for over 100 in a HALF. Maurice Jones-Drew went for 125. See a trend? This Broncos defense was missing two starting LB's and had a DL filled with former Browns. Yet big Jamal went off for 3.2 YPC.
That 3.2 YPC counts in his 29 yard carry. Take that away and the man ran for 31 yards on 18 carries which makes out for a 1.7 YPC. A football team cannot win with that kind of rushing attack. He has averaged 3.6 YPC for the season. I know he has faced some tough run defense's (Baltimore twice, Pittsburgh, and the Giants) but he has also faced Denver, Cinncy, Cowboys, and Jaguars all who give up a 100+ yards per week on average.
Jerome Harrison is a small back. He has shown a "knack" for making big plays in this offense. He has a longer reception this year than Jamal Lewis. He has a longer carry this year than Jamal Lewis. That is an interesting stat for this reason alone. Jamal Lewis has touched the ball 182 times this season. Jerome Harrison 26. Yet Jerome has the longer plays. That is not a mistake. Jamal has no burst. He has no power. He is running timid again. When was the last time that Jamal ran someone over and put a DB on thier ass? Jerome Harrison is running like a Denver RB. One cut and he is up the field. He is not just a "change of pace RB".
I know the hangup on Jerome has been his ability to blitz pick-up. But last night with a QB making his first start, the Browns max protected ZERO times. What is more dangerous than flipping a quick pass out to Harrison in the flat when the defense is blitzing? I love the match-up of Harrison against a safety with no help. How many times do I need to see Jamal Lewis swing out into the flat with his arm raised just to see a pass go bouching off his hands?
I supported the change of Quinn over Anderson. I am really hoping for Jamal to get phased out. Arizona has a 3 games lead in their division yet were not afraid to pull the plug on the Edge for Tim Hightower. Why does that matter to the Browns?
Edge; 108 Carries 380 Yards 3.5 YPC; 10 catches 73 yards
Jamal; 167 Carries 593 Yards 3.6 YPC; 15 Catches 144 yards
Awfully similar. The Cards made the switch, why can't the Browns? Am I alone on this?

Chad Johnson, dumbest human alive
In case you dont wan't to click on link, here is Chad Johnson's quote.
Ocho Cinco: "No man, that has nothing to do with it. That has nothing to do with it. Think about this: You remember our '05 season right? Our '05 season we were unbelievable. Our '05 season is the year everybody went to jail and got arrested. That year everybody got in trouble. So maybe the bad was a good thing. It sounds dumb to say, but look at it. We have cleaned house and nobody is getting in trouble anymore, no DUIs, no arrests, now we're getting our a-- whopped. Maybe I don't know, maybe I should go out have a drink, get in trouble. Our '05 was one of the best years here in history. It was one of those years where there was a lot of distractions"

Don Banks think the Browns should switch
Here is the quote;
Make the switch now, Romeo. Once you introduce the possibility of a starting quarterback change, it almost always becomes something of a self-fulfilling prophecy any way. Putting Derek Anderson on notice for being yanked in favor of Brady Quinn isn't really that far from the actual benching, even though it probably feels like just the last step of necessary patience to the Browns' head coach.

The Cleveland Browns successfully made a late push to sign all five of their 2008 draft picks Wednesday night to four-year deals.
Cleveland had zero picks in the first three rounds, but drafted linebacker Beau Bell and tight end Martin Rucker in the fourth round, defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin and receiver Paul Hubbard in the sixth, and linebacker Alex Hall in the seventh round. They all struck deals before the deadline, as the Browns will begin training camp in Berea, Ohio, Wednesday afternoon.

Browns have best O-Line in NFL
1. Cleveland Browns
While most NFL teams have about four linemen who are truly starting caliber, the Browns have seven or eight. Not only are they deep, but they arguably have the best left side in the NFL with LG Eric Steinbach and LT Joe Thomas. Entering his second season, Thomas is talented enough to potentially be recognized as the best lineman in the game before the end of the 2008 season. He is a great athlete, has ideal size (6-foot-6, 313 pounds) and the passion to bury his opponent. As a rookie, he wasn't overwhelmed by the speed and size of the game at this level, and now he's had an entire offseason to properly prepare. At 6-6, Steinbach is tall for a guard and lacks ideal bulk, but he is very quick, smart and athletic. He consistently gets under the pads of his opponents, works hard to finish and is tremendous in space. The rest of the group isn't too shabby and made QB Derek Anderson look exceptional last year. The pass protection is impeccable. Ryan Tucker will miss time to start the season, but Cleveland shouldn't miss a beat in his absence. Center Hank Fraley is a tough guy in the middle of the line and does a fine job making the line calls. After a great season in 2007, this group will be even better in 2008.
