Coin Flip to Decide 3rd Draft Pick

New, comments

Update [2007-1-1 12:2:42 by ChrisPokorny]: According to NFLDraftCountdown.com, the Browns will be selecting third in the draft, while the Buccaneers will be selecting fourth. I believe the Cleveland Plain Dealer also stated the same thing this morning. The numbers in terms of strength of schedule were definitely tight, which I'm sure was the cause for confusion.

If you haven't heard, the Cleveland Browns and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are tied for the 3rd pick in this April's draft because both teams finished the season with a 4-12 record. The next tiebreaker after that would be the strength of victory. According to numerous sources, if the Bears would have beaten the Packers in the final game of the season, the Browns would have had the tougher schedule and picked third. Because the Packers won though, the pick will supposedly be decided by a coin flip, which is the next tiebreaker.

At the moment, my early "want" for the Browns is left tackle Joe Thomas. He will be highly coveted, but I don't think the Buccaneers would pass on wide receiver Calvin Johnson if they picked third or fourth.
