Browns Will Express Interest in Kris Dielman

As free agency continues to approach us, the speculation in regards to who the Browns will attempt to sign is increasing. In today's Dayton Daily, writer Carlos Holmes states that the Cleveland Browns have a definite interest in San Diego Chargers offensive lineman Kris Dielman, who plays the guard position. If that were the case, then the Browns would not pursue Cincinnati Bengals guard Eric Steinbach, a player that I personally would be more interested in the Browns acquiring.

According to Holmes via a league source, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is the reason why the Browns would have an increased interest in Dielman. Chud has worked with Dielman over the past two seasons and was "one of his biggest fans." It is worth noting that Dielman is a local guy though, which could add to his interest in coming to Cleveland. I would expect that Steinbach would require a slightly higher price than Dielman would, which could also factor into the situation.

  • D'Qwell's Health: According to Tony Grossi, Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson will begin his rehabilitation from turf toe surgery in about a month. Jackson was forced to have a cast on his foot for six weeks after the surgery, and was pleased just to be able to walk again for the past month or so.
  • Tuiasosopo as Backup: Grossi also mentions not to forget that last year, Phil Savage was very interested in acquiring Oakland Raiders backup quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo. Tuiasosopo will now be a free agent come March, and although he hasn't played in a lot of games during his career, I've seen him play before and would trust him as a better backup than Ken Dorsey.
For those of you that have the NFL Network, a post over at the OBR lists the times and dates in which coverage will be held for the scouting combine, starting on February 22nd. Remember to keep voting in the poll on the front page, because I need more input before I can review a defensive position.
