Suddenly, the Cleveland Browns' defensive coordinator position for next season seems a little bit murky. It was pretty clear after Pat Shurmur's press conference that Rob Ryan would not be returning, but now it appears official. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Ryan has been hired by the Cowboys as their new defensive coordinator.
In other news, the Philadelphia Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott yesterday. It is not a surprise that the Eagles wanted to make a change, but it is a surprise considering the Eagles said last week that he would return for another season. Newspapers are now reporting that defensive backs coach Dick Jauron is a candidate to replace McDermott now. Could Philadelphia have made the sudden move to prevent Jauron from leaving the team for Cleveland?
Even if Philadelphia offers him the job, Jauron still might favor Cleveland due to his previous relationships with the staff here. We'll have more details as they come along.
