According to reports via the Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Browns have signed running back Thomas Clayton after holding tryouts. The team needed another back with Montario Hardesty out at least several weeks with a calf injury, and the uncertainty of running back Peyton Hillis and his hamstring injury.

Clayton was a sixth-round draft pick in 2007 by the San Francisco 49ers. He led all rushers in yardage during the preseason in 2007 and 2008, but suffered a torn ACL in 2009. Last year, Clayton had an unusual experience of being swapped between two teams. He was with the Patriots, the Browns, the Patriots, the Browns, and then ended with the Patriots. He was signed by the Seahawks at the end of last season, but was waived at the start of camp this year. Now he's back with the Browns. Even though there is a new head coach in place, the fact that Tom Heckert was here last year had to help Clayton's cause.
