Linebacker Scott Fujita broke his right hand in two spots on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. According to head coach Pat Shurmur, Fujita will undergo surgery this week. When asked if Fujita would be placed on the injured reserve, Shurmur said, "We're gonna have to see. We haven't made any final decisions on that, but he's gonna miss some significant time. Of course, that's an option."
You can be assured that Fujita will not play in this week's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Chris Gocong will go over to the strongside spot to take Fujita's place, and Kaluka Maiava will be re-inserted into the starting lineup to take Gocong's spot. Maiava filled in for Fujita against the Seahawks earlier this season.
I thought Fujita got off to a rough start to the season, but when he returned following the Seahawks game, I thought he picked up his game and became a stable enough force again. With that said, it's also good to get Maiava, who played well in the preseason, some reps as well. Maiava sprained his knee against the Bengals but is expected to be ready for Baltimore.
