With the tenth pick in the 2011 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the Washington Redskins select...
Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
This selection and write-up was made by Rounds94:
The Shanahan regime had a rough start this past season. He is trying to make this his team and it will take time for him to do that. His first pick of this upcoming draft will be a great indication of where they are heading. Do they go for a young quarterback? How about a nice, explosive wide receiver? Boy, bolstering up that defense would sure be nice. Ah. Decisions. Decisions.
The Washington Redskins are in need of many upgrades on both sides of the ball. This was a tough one. I had the notion of selecting Gabbert because Washington needs a young quarterback of the future. Julio Jones tempted me as well, because Santana Moss has not made a commitment yet. But, it seemed to me that the Redskins defense needed more help.
2010 Defensive Ranks:
Scoring: 21st
Yds/Game: 31st
Rush: 26th
Pass: 31stWashington's defense registered only 29 sacks in 2010. Robert Quinn can come in and make a difference right away. "Adding a pass rusher opposite Pro Bowl outside linebacker Brian Orakpo ranks right at the top of our priority list." (Shanahan) The Redskins and I were foaming at the mouth with the prospect of Nick Fairley falling to 10. The Redskins have expressed the dire need of a quality game changing DT. Quinn will do just fine!
I consider this to be a quality pick if Robert Quinn falls to 10. He had to sit out last season, but the kid hasn't lost his top of the line size, strength and speed. He could very well be the best pass rusher this draft has to offer. And, this is why I believe Robert Quinn to be a good fit for the Washington Redskins in this draft.
This pick coincides nicely with the draft profile that Brownsyup just wrote. I was a bit surprised at how poorly the Redskins did last year, but it is looking more and more like they will have so many holes to fill. Shanahan has done wonders putting good running games together in the past with marginal talent, so I agree that he'll shoot for defense with the tenth overall pick if he passes on Gabbert. I'm a little shaky on how much of an impact Quinn will have in year one, but if he is the BPA at the position, then so be it.
The Houston Texans are on the clock next (pick has been received from rdy).
