Cleveland Browns Draft Bust #1: David Veikune

When I was making this list, there was no doubt in my mind that David Veikune would be at the top of the list. Let's take a brief look at the reasons why...

In his rookie season in 2009, Veikune appeared in ten games and did not record a single tackle. He was never trusted to be in the linebacker rotation during the regular season, and this was at a time when Cleveland really did not have Pro Bowl linebackers or anything like that.

There were no injury excuses for Veikune. He was taken with the 52nd overall pick in the second round and was expected to be a key contributor. We thought maybe he would see some playing time in 2010, but he was waived at the start of the regular season. When that happens after just one year in which the guy didn't even play, there is no doubt in my mind that the coaches must have felt he was no where near the player they imagined. The Denver Broncos signed him this past November and he may have a shot to resurrect his young career, but when it comes to his time in Cleveland, it has to be one of the biggest wastes of a second round pick in franchise history. No tackles, no starts, no impact; just one year of occupying a roster spot and that is it.
