Chris Gocong Signs 3-Year, $16.8 Million Extension

Heading into the day, the Cleveland Browns had already signed tight end Evan Moore, left tackle Joe Thomas, and defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin to contract extensions. There have been off-and-on rumors of the team being interested in signing running back Peyton Hillis and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson to extensions at some point. Did anyone see this one coming though: the team signed linebacker Chris Gocong to a 3-year extension worth $16.8 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Is that the type of offer that indicates the Browns don't anticipate needing to upgrade the linebacker position next year? General manager Tom Heckert has often had high praise for Gocong, who he acquired in a trade with Philadelphia last year. Gocong only has nine tackles through three games this season. He recorded a half sack this past Sunday, and has three quarterback hits on the year.

What do you think? Do you have any issues with the team re-signing Gocong?
