In SB Nation's Week 9 NFL Power Rankings, Joel Thorman bumped the Cleveland Browns up to No. 29 overall, thanks to their 7-6 win over the San Diego Chargers. Even though the Browns' ranking rose, I'm sure they aren't going to get a ton of credit considering how few points were scored by both teams. Here's what Joel said about the Browns this week:
29. Cleveland Browns (LW: 30, 2-6): Hey, Pat Shurmur actually went for it on fourth down ... and it worked. I suspect Jimmy Haslam had a talk with the lame duck head coach after last week.
Here is how the rest of the AFC North fared in the rankings:
Baltimore: No. 8 (push from No. 8)
Pittsburgh: No. 10 (up from No. 11)
Cincinnati: No. 18 (push from No. 18)
Cleveland: No. 29 (up from No. 30)
The Ravens and the Bengals maintained their rankings due to being on the bye. The division rankings could change drastically this week if the Browns are able to beat the Ravens; in that scenario, I think you could make a legitimate case that Cleveland belongs ahead of Cincinnati. I was surprised by how well the Steelers played against the Redskins last week, so maybe they will be a team on the rise after all.
