A few days ago, we reported the rather embarrassing promotion that the Cleveland Browns were set to run for this week's game against the Steelers -- giving away inflatable white flags to all fans in attendance. The idea did not go over well for obvious reasons; in a poll we ran on Dawgs By Nature, 76% of fans voted that the Browns should ditch the giveaway. Today, the team announced that they are going to do just that:
"After further and careful consideration, we felt it was in the best interests of everyone involved that we not have a giveaway item at tomorrow’s game. It is something that was intended to be fun for our fans and that they could rally around, and we regret that some didn’t perceive it that way. We want to thank all of our fans for their tremendous support and we look forward to seeing them out in force at the stadium tomorrow."
Win or lose, at least we won't have to hear about in pre-game and post-game shows as much as we would have if the promotion had been retained. There is no word yet on what the team will do with all of the flags they had intended on giving away.
