Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
This selection and write-up was made by rufio:
This pick really needs no explanation. Griffin is a supreme talent at the most important position in sports. The Mike Holmgren era has yet to see a significant franchise investment in a quarterback, and everyone in Berea knows they are just treading water until they find or develop the right guy.
Griffin has all of the qualities you like about Colt McCoy--leadership, intelligence, confidence, moxie, dare I say...he's a winner--and a few of the physical qualities Colt just doesn't possess. If I drafted Griffin it would be with the intention of having a QB competition and giving McCoy a chance. If he can keep a top-5 pick on the bench his career path may indeed resemble that of Drew Brees, and the Browns are in a great situation. If not, Browns fans would have another excuse to dust off those old #10 jerseys and another line to draw through a name on the back of them.
I think we're all pretty convinced -- if the Browns stay at No. 4 overall and Robert Griffin III is available, they will take him. As we all know, it sounds like the Washington Redskins are going to make a play to jump in front of Cleveland to acquire him. Since trades aren't permitted in this mock draft, we'll turn a blind eye to this. I think Colt McCoy has some redeeming qualities, but I his lack of progress this past season was pretty disappointing. It's hard to judge someone when their receivers are not the greatest, but on the same token, McCoy also needs to make the players around him better. Griffin III has more of the physical qualities to do just that.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock next (email has been sent to Rounds94).
