With the 17th pick in the 2012 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select...
Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
This selection and write-up was made by Bernie19Kosar:
Covering the Bengals just got a lot more difficult. I wanted to go in some other directions, but they were either taken (Trent Richardson) or the position they play is very deep in this draft. So I decided to gamble.
Hill brings the Bengals a deep threat to stretch defenses, allowing fellow first rounders Jermaine Gresham and A.J. Green room to work underneath. You have to respect the speed, and you have to double team A.J. Green (unless you have Joe Haden, then you don't have to double team anyone on earth). Outside of us though, Gresham will murder teams underneath while Green will abuse teams that will need to run off their safeties to stay with Hill.
Hill is raw. He will take some time to completely develop, but the Bengals can take this risk when they have Green on the other side. He will be able to allow Hill to run fly routes all season long until he learns the nuances of a route tree.
The Bengals lost Andre Caldwell to the Broncos and Jerome Simpson has legal issues and is a free agent. With the Bengals having multiple first rounders, I will be able to address the other, bigger, needs later on in the draft.
Receivers going back-to-back with the Jets and the Bengals? I'm not sure that's something I would've expected, although the Bengals have a bit more flexibility with two first-round picks that are close to each other. The Bengals are trying to add a few players at defensive end via free agency, but running back obviously stands out as a need through the draft. Unfortunately, running backs after Richardson aren't attractive enough at this point.
The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock next (email will be sent to Bernie19Kosar).
