With the 31st pick in the 2012 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select...

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

This selection and write-up was made by Boston Browns:

The Patriots thought they found a gem in Devin McCourty after his stellar rookie campaign, but he struggled mightily last year and was moved/demoted to safety. This puts the front-office on high-alert for a top-end cornerback to pair with youngster Ras-I Dowling and Kyle Arrington. Dre Kirkpatrick at Pick #31 addresses this glaring weakness and the team is happy to pair him with Shea McClellin. Dre possesses prototypical size and strength and is best leveraged in press coverage and run support - given his physicality at the line of scrimmage general aggressiveness. I see the Patriots using Dre in their "gunner" positions on the punt and kickoff teams initially, where he can learn to properly harness these assets while learning defensive schemes. Make no mistake, Dre is a beast. As a Browns fan that’s subjected to watching New England cable television, I look forward to seeing him blitz off the edge and utterly "Hit Stick" the mole off-of Mark Sanchez’s face.

The Patriots can always use some players to help in their secondary, especially since they'll be going up against Peyton Manning probably twice this season (once in the regular season, once in the playoffs). Yes -- I already jump to "playoffs," because unless the Patriots lose Tom Brady, they are guaranteed to make the postseason.

The New York Giants are on the clock next (email will be sent to Red-Right-88).
