With the 25th pick in the 2012 Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select...

Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

This selection and write-up was made by notthatnoise:

At first I wasn't sure where I would be going with this pick, but once Peyton Manning signed on a lot fell into place. With Manning on board, the Broncos receivers are more than adequate (quite good in fact) and running back will be an afterthought, though perhaps the Broncos still look to add a back later. .

Despite all the talk about Denver's defense carrying them last season, they actually ranked 22 in rushing yards given up per game. Worthy addresses that need immediately, and is especially important with the loss of Brodrick Bunkley. Worthy was a two-gapper in college, and ate blockers alive. He will take up space in the middle, and as an added bonus put up maybe 4 sacks per season. He's even explosive enough that he could one-gap, should the Broncos choose to go that route. There were a number of other DTs available here, but Worthy sticks out as the best run-stopper to me.

The Broncos are going to be like the Colts for a few years now: now that they have Peyton Manning, it really doesn't matter who they draft. I like the argument to improve the running game. I probably would've liked an offensive lineman if I was a Denver fan, but all of the top guys are already off the board.

The Houston Texans are on the clock next (pick received by troy145).
