When the Cleveland Browns drafted defensive lineman John Hughes in the third round this past April, almost everyone said, "who?" Hughes' chances of contributing this season went up drastically after the injury to last season's first-round pick, Phil Taylor, was announced. Many people criticized the Browns' pick of Hughes, saying he was supposed to be a late-round pick at best. In an interview with the Plain Dealer, Hughes seems to maintain a quiet sense of confidence. He also seems to have a sense of humor:
"It's not easy because it's everywhere," Hughes said of his low-ranked draft analysis. " It is motivation, but I just try to avoid it when I can. Usually, when I type in my name, the [late] film director John Hughes pops up anyway."
The rookie paused. "I'm a fan of his 'Home Alone' movies."
I don't know if he'll ever be able to surpass the film director's name, but at least he appears when you add the word "Browns" to the search! The rest of the article has some quotes from Hughes' previous coach, so be sure to check it out.
