The Cleveland Browns are nine steps closer to the August 27 deadline for the 75-man roster. These nine cuts currently leave the Browns with 80 players, so we'll see five more cuts to come prior to 4:00 PM EDT on Monday. The players cut this morning include:
WR Carlton Mitchell
WR Bert Reed
WR Jermaine Saffold
WR Owen Spencer
DB Emmanuel Davis
LB JoJo Dickson
OL Jake Anderson
OL Matt Cleveland
P Spencer Lanning
The most notable on that list is 2010 sixth round draft pick Carlton Mitchell, but the cut shouldn't come as much of a surprise to fans here. Despite excellent measurables, Mitchell failed to make any sort of impact on the field for the Browns, only recording three receptions over his first two seasons in Cleveland.
Among those not on the list this morning that I know at least some of the Dawgs By Nature audience might be dissappointed about is OL Oniel Cousins. After being claimed off of waivers by the Browns in August 2011, much of Cousins time in Cleveland has been plagued by penalties, stretching into the preseason this year. Still, while some may be disappointed, most of us aren't surprised.
How do you feel about the roster cuts made by the Browns this morning? How do you expect will the next five to go before the deadline tomorrow?
