Now that some more jersey numbers are available for the rookies who made the team, several players have decided to change the numbers on their back (hopefully you did not buy their jerseys prematurely). According to CBS Rapid Reports, the following changes were made:
- WR Josh Gordon is now #13 (previously #86)
- C Garth Gerhart is now #61 (previously #53)
- DT Billy Winn is now #90 (previously #79)
- LB Craig Robertson is now #53 (previously #47)
- LB L.J. Fort is now #58 (previously #40)
The new numbers above were formerly held by the following players in camp: Gordon took WR Rod Windsor's number, Gerhart took OL Matt Cleveland's number, Winn took LB Quinton Spears' number, Robertson took C Garth Gerhart's number, and Fort took DE Marcus Benard's number. Ouch -- taking a guy's number who is on injured reserve? Per WFNY, Robertson and Fort had to change their numbers because linebackers cannot wear numbers in the 40's during the regular season; they only did so during camp due to the number of people on the roster.
In a roster-related move, LB Solomon Elimimian did not last very long on the practice squad. After hyping him up the other day in my Sunday column, the team released him and re-signed DE Brian Sanford to the practice squad. Sanford originally made the 53-man roster, but was released on Saturday to make room for a player claimed off waivers.
