The 2013 Senior Bowl took place earlier today, with the South coming away with a 21-16 victory over the North. Over the past week, some fans wondered which members of the Cleveland Browns' staff would be in attendance at the practices leading up to the All-Star game, as well as the game itself.
Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski talked about being too busy with the coaching search to make it down to Mobile, AL, but that the scouting and personnel staff (but not Michael Lombardi) would have everything taken care of:
"The scouts and our personnel people went down to the Senior Bowl. I just had too much work to do and our staff just getting all in town and getting together. We have plenty of work to do here. And we can catch up on the Senior Bowl tape. Everything’s filmed down there. That won’t be an issue, as far as evaluations go."
There were a few rumblings about offensive line coach George Warhop being down there, though, which I guess counts for something. This might be a photo of the Browns' scouts at the Senior Bowl practices.
Over the past two weeks or so, several draft-related websites have made note of players who have confirmed that someone affiliated with a certain team has met with team. Between the East-West Shrine game and the North-South Senior Bowl, here are the players the Browns have reportedly reached out to:
- TE Josh Hill, Idaho State - EW
- OT Earl Watford, James Madison - EW
- DL Will Pericak, Colorado - EW
- LB A.J. Klein, Iowa State - EW
- OLB Cornelius Washington, Georgia - Senior Bowl
- LS Carson Tinker, Alabama - Senior Bowl
The list of players that the Browns' scouting staff talked to is probably far greater than this, but at least this can get the discussion rolling on a couple of select players.
Last year, the Browns actually drafted six players who participated in the Senior Bowl, which was the most in the NFL. Those players included QB Brandon Weeden, FB Brad Smelley, OT Mitchell Schwartz, DT Billy Winn, LB James-Michael Johnson, and LB Emmanuel Acho.
In the comments section below, let us know if you have any information on the players who the Browns scouted. If not, let us know who you were impressed with in the Senior Bowl game.
Scouting information comes from Draft Countdown, Walter Football, and Alfie Crow.
