Instant Recap: Bears Defeat Browns 38-31

Despite two defensive touchdowns, the Cleveland Browns lost their final home game of the season to the Chicago Bears by a final score of 38-31.

It was a relatively quiet start to the first half, but with the score tied at 3-3 mid-way through the second quarter, S Tashaun Gipson recorded his second interception of the game, this time going for 44 yards and a touchdown to give Cleveland a 10-3 lead. QB Jay Cutler finally struck late for the Bears, as WR Brandon Marshall out-wrestled CB Joe Haden for the ball twice, the latter time resulting in a 5-yard touchdown to tie the game at 10-10.

The Browns got the ball to start the second half, but QB Jason Campbell and WR Greg Little had a miscommunication on an out route, which led to a 43-yard pick six for the Bears' Zack Bowman. The Browns answered with a touchdown on their next drive, though, led by a couple of runs from TE MarQueis Gray and capped off with a 2-yard touchdown run by RB Edwin Baker to tie the game at 17-17.

With the Bears moving the ball on their next drive in the third quarter, TE Martellus Bennett was stripped of the football by DE Billy Winn and recovered by SS T.J. Ward, who returned it 51 yards for a touchdown. Cleveland had a 24-17 lead, but the fourth quarter then turned out to be a disaster. Cleveland had a chance to take control of the game with an early offensive drive, but a holding penalty on Shawn Lauvao forced the Browns to punt.

Chicago then ripped off 21 straight points in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of injuries to CB Joe Haden and Gipson. In the closing moments of the game, Campbell finally connected with WR Josh Gordon for a 43-yard touchdown. The Browns' onside kick failed, and Chicago took a knee to end the game.

The story of this game on offense was Campbell having another one of his "off" games. At first, he didn't target Gordon at all, and when he did, the passes were thrown ahead of him by a step. Some people will say that Gordon's effort is down, but a guy can't make a one-handed stab every time.

For fans who are looking forward to the draft, the good news is that the Bills and Vikings both won, so Cleveland will jump ahead of both of those teams (temporarily) in the draft order. Cleveland now finishes the season with two road games against the Jets and the Steelers, but they've lost five in a row and are now 4-10 on the year.
