Browns DE Desmond Bryant out for season with irregular heartbeat

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns announced that DE Desmond Bryant was placed on the non-football illness list due to an irregular heartbeat and will miss the remainder of the season.

This wasn't Bryant's first run-in with the problem. He was sidelined with shortness of breath back in early October during the game against the Bills, an injury that was accompanied by an irregular heartbeat as well. He reported similar symptoms again Monday and was absent from practice on Wednesday.

He will undergo a minor surgery this week to correct the issue, according to team spokesman Zak Gilbert. Bryant is expected to make a full recovery and resume his football career.

As a free agent acquisition this past offseason, signing a five-year contract worth $34 million, almost half of it guaranteed, Bryant emerged as one of the Browns' most productive pass rushers. Starting all 12 games, he's totaled 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
