Mel Kiper's Third Mock Draft: Browns Take DE Dion Jordan at No. 6 Overall

Joe Robbins

Mel Kiper released his third mock draft of the year on Monday, with an update accounting for the new first round draft order after the Minnesota Vikings traded Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks. When it came to the Cleveland Browns at No. 6 overall, Kiper changed Cleveland's pick after going with DE Bjoern Werner in his first two mock drafts earlier in the offseason. On the heels of free agency, he sees the Browns going with OLB Dion Jordan instead:

OLB Dion Jordan, Oregon

Pick analysis: The Browns had one of the worst pass rushes in the league last year, even with Jabaal Sheard around. Jordan is a long, explosive pass-rusher with freakish athleticism and an ability to work in space. This is a guy you want to unleash in a 3-4.

Free-agency factor: The Browns could be looking for some pass-rush help, but they won't find a player with better value than Jordan for their system. Yes, the Browns could still make a move for a quarterback, but I'm quite certain they won't use this pick for one if they can't add one via free agency or trade.

Kiper has two offensive tackles going back-to-back to begin the draft. As for Werner, his stock plummeted all the way down to No. 30 overall, where the Atlanta Falcons are drafting. Kiper isn't the only one who has the Browns hot on Jordan; Dan Kadar of Mocking the Draft projected the same thing earlier today, along with a couple of fallback options:

6. Cleveland Browns: Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon
Moving to the 3-4, the Browns need to add talent at outside linebacker. Jabaal Sheard is set to play one of the outside spots, but it's unknown how successful he can transition from end. Jordan has a way to go as a pass rusher, but he's an incredible athlete just scratching the surface of his potential. The Browns have a lot of salary cap space, so this pick is fluid.

Other possibilities: Jarvis Jones, Chance Warmack

A couple of weeks ago, Mike Krupka of Dawgs By Nature reviewed the prospects of Cleveland drafting Jordan. He also recently took a look at whether the Browns might consider drafting OLB Jarvis Jones at No. 6 overall.
