Now that the big news in free agency is out of the way, it's time to resume our site-wide mock draft. Free agency might have thrown things off a tad, particularly at No. 1 overall, where the Chiefs are taking Dee Milliner. However, I don't think the picks at the top will change the draft too much. For example, in reality, maybe only Kansas City and Oakland's picks would be shuffled.
The previous made was Geno Smith to the Bills, which they would still love after releasing Ryan Fitzpatrick. With the ninth pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the New York Jets select...
Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
This selection and write-up was made by notthatnoise:
I really struggled here, it was hard not to pick Matt Barkley given how bad the Jets' QB situation is. At the end of the day though, I don't think he's a top ten pick and I think the Jets will try to make one more run with the core they have, before blowing it all up next year. Rex Ryan needs to win to keep his job, and that's tough with a rookie QB.
On to Patterson. He's the most explosive receiver in this year's draft, and the Jets need offensive playmakers in a big way. Their line is good, and even if they had a decent QB he wouldn't have much to work with. Patterson is a physical specimen at 6'2" 215lbs who runs a 4.4 forty and had the highest vertical at the combine. He's a deep threat who is also good over the middle (he was frequently used as a running back in college). He has only played one season of real college football, but he's a natural at the position. His main weakness is that he doesn't always catch with his hands, but good coaching will take care of that. This is the guy the Jets need to create matchup problems in their offense.
The Jets seem like one of the worst teams in the league to me, and I don't know if a receiver is going to get them out of trouble. I guess you have to start somewhere, but another issue is that Patterson doesn't stand out as the next greatest receiver in the NFL. Our Jets affiliate also made a case against taking him.
The Tennessee Titans are up next, led by pt_999.
