2013 SB Nation Writers NFL Mock Draft - Cleveland Browns Take DE/OLB Dion Jordan

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The annual SB Nation Writers Mock Draft is in progress over at Mocking the Draft. Similarly to our own mock draft here at Dawgs By Nature, the way it works is that each NFL blog picks a player for their team when their site is on the clock. Heading into Cleveland's pick, the following five players were already off the board:

(In parenthesis is the average voting rank given on Mocking the Draft by voters -- 1 = F; 2 = D; 3 = C; 4 = B; 5 = A)

  1. Kansas City: OT Luke Joeckel (4.41)
  2. Jacksonville: QB Geno Smith (3.91)
  3. Oakland: DT Sharrif Floyd (4.35)
  4. Philadelphia: OT Eric Fisher (4.60)
  5. Detroit: DE/OLB Ezekiel Ansah (4.12)

After consulting with a few of the staff writers at Dawgs By Nature, there was a pretty clear consensus about what player needed to be taken at No. 6 overall: DE/OLB Dion Jordan.

Chris Pokorny: "Although the Browns signed outside linebackers Paul Kruger and Quentin Groves in the offseason, they need to fill their roster with as many edge rushers as possible. The Browns' two projected starters at outside linebacker are Kruger and Jabaal Sheard. Kruger was an effective rotational player in Baltimore, but thrived when there was a Terrell Suggs in the lineup. The team is hoping that Sheard can make the transition to 3-4 outside linebacker after playing as a 4-3 defensive end the past two years, but there is no guarantee in him being as effective in that role.

"Having Jordan on the roster as well gives the Browns some flexibility to move him, Sheard, Kruger and Groves around to suit their strengths, working in the best-possible rotation and finding out which tandem will be the best one in the future."
