2013 DBN Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Select OT Eric Fisher at No. 4

USA TODAY Sports

With the fourth pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select...

Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan

This selection and write-up was made by Chalmdeezy:

To be honest, I struggled at making this selection. I posted a thread at Bleeding Green Nation and asked their opinion because they know more about their team than I do. Then I thought to myself, if Joe Banner can do this, why can't I?

While the Eagles have quite a few needs on defense, I felt like solidifying the hole at right tackle was the right thing to do, considering how much the Eagles' offensive line took a beating last year. Fisher looked good during his senior year, but some could assume that he was a big fish in a small pond playing against mid-major competition at Central Michigan -- that was, until the Senior Bowl, in which showed why he was a monster. Fisher excelled in the pass rush and did well in the running game. He posted some impressive numbers at the Combine also, and because of that, his stock has never been higher.

Some experts are projecting Fisher as a left tackle. I think he will start his career on the right side, then after a few seasons, he could switch over to left. No, it's not a "sexy" pick, but he will start immediately and he has a ton of upside. At a bare minimum, if he performs as well as Mitchell Schwartz did for us, I think that the pick would be considered a success.

The Eagles are expecting All-Pro left tackle Jason Peters to return from injury. On one hand, I should hate on the pick, because I wasn't so hot on the Raiders taking Luke Joeckel with the previous pick, considering they had an up-and-coming left tackle. Also, would drafting a right tackle at No. 4 overall be a reach? Yeah, performing as well as Mitchell Schwartz would be great for the Eagles, but Cleveland took him in the second round last year.

On the other hand, I think the Eagles have more flexibility to make this type of pick than Oakland did. They have been getting killed on the offensive line for years, and if Chip Kelly is able to successfully install his offense, he can't have guys running free from the edge. I'm kind of lukewarm on this pick right now, because I don't know exactly what type of Philadelphia team we're going to see with Kelly coming in to change the culture of the organization.
