2013 DBN Mock Draft: Chicago Bears Select Arthur Brown at No. 20

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

With the 20th pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears select...

Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State

This selection and write-up was made by PaduaDSP:

My initial thoughts when I chose for the Bears immediately focused on improving the offensive line. They needed a left tackle and a left guard in the worst way; the Bears need to keep Cutler upright and healthy if they are ever going to go anywhere. The Bears inked Jermon Bushrod in FA to play left tackle and at this point in the first round the best guards available to plug their hole at left guard in the first are off the board. So I turned to other positions that badly need upgrading and I took a peak the Bears depth chart and found that Blake Costanzo was slated to start at middle linebacker for the Bears next season and I needed to look no further.

The selection here came down to two players -- Arthur Brown and Alec Ogletree. I chose Brown because based on what I have been researching and the video I have watched, Brown's stock is rising while Ogletree's stock is falling. Brown is coming off a good senior season at Kansas State. Brown is coming off a shoulder injury but was able to perform well at Kansas State's pro day a few weeks ago. The Bears are apparently going to let the long time leader of their defense, Brian Urlacher, depart in free agency and they simply can not afford to replace a player the caliber of Urlacher with a player the caliber of Blake Constanzo. There are some concerns about Brown's size and ability to play inside in the NFL but those concerns seem not as serious when weighed against Alec Ogletree's off the field issues.

Brown should be able to step in and start for the Bears right away and help to fill the void left by one of the all time great Chicago Bears.

Since Padua submitted his pick behind the scenes, the Chicago Bears have signed two free agent linebackers to one-year deals: D.J. Williams and James Anderson. Both could very well start this year, and Williams would replace linebacker. With that said, it could still be worth getting younger at the position and trying to develop someone long-term -- that could be Brown.

The Cincinnati Bengals are up next, led by troy145.
