With the 21st pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select...
Jonathan Cyprien, SS, FIU
This selection and write-up was made by troy145:
Some might consider Cyprien a reach, especially with safeties like Matt Elam of UF still on the table. However, Cyprien has been climbing the draft boards and is considered by many to be the second rated safety in this draft class behind only Kenny Vaccaro. The Bengals find themselves with a glaring need at safety with Reggie Nelson holding down one spot and a mash of late-round picks and special teamers gunning for the other.
Cyprien has good size at 6'0", 210lbs and loves to bring the wood on tackles. He flies around the field and as a result, one word you'll always see attached to him in draft profiles is "rangy." He sees the field well and can anticipate which way a play is developing, adding to his value in both defending the run and pass.
Cyprien is an all-around talent and would be a day-one starter and impact player for the Bengals. Playing for Cincinnati, I would expect Cyprien to have as good a rookie season as almost any defensive back that gets taken this April.
I kind of chuckled when I saw Todd McShay's recent draft having the Bengals go with a cornerback. Really? With Leon Hall, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Adam Jones in the mix? Safety seems like a bigger need for the Bengals than cornerback, but it is true that Cyprien would be a reach here. I'd have to wonder if they could get similar value, or even Cyprien himself, at this same spot in round two.
The St. Louis Rams are up next, led by nickjs21.
