2013 DBN Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns Select OLB Jarvis Jones at No. 6

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

With the sixth pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

This selection and write-up was made by Cedarpoint2k3:

Jarvis Jones is a blue chip player who will make an immediate impact. *Barring any terrible news from individual team doctors in relation to being diagnosed with spinal stenosis.

It's not difficult for me (admittedly, a homer) to say how close the Browns are to making the playoffs. With last year's draft focused on the offense, this year, the Browns will need a stud outside linebacker who can rush the quarterback, play a hybrid scheme with multiple fronts, and drop into coverage. Jones fits the bill: the 6-2, 242-pounder led the country in three critical statistics -- sacks (14.5), tackles for loss (24.5), and forced fumbles (7) in 12 games. This amount of production on the field outweighs any Combine numbers, in my opinion. One of Jones' biggest assets is that he isn't a one-dimensional outside pass rusher. His ability to stunt inside, blow by the tackle, defend the run, and athleticism to drop into a zone is going to make Horton go six to midnight.

As Cleveland Browns fans, we will be on the edge of our seats watching Jones because in 2013, he will put up Von Miller-type numbers. He is a Pro Bowl talent, and being lined up beside D'Qwell Jackson will only help his cause.

As Cedarpoint2k3 points out, this pick is completely conditional based on Jones' health. My stance is that the Browns goes along with the majority consensus right now: take someone who can play outside linebacker. With two players, Dion Jordan and Ezekiel Ansah, already off the board, Jones seems like a nice fit.

I like the fact that Jones wouldn't require as much of a transition to the NFL as an outside linebacker as some of the other pass rushers being considered. For Cleveland, it's not about who we take -- I think that's a crapshoot, in a way. It comes down to picking one of these talented guys available at the position, and Jones is one of them.

What do you think, Browns fans? Given the talent available, did Cedarpoint2k3 get it right?

The Arizona Cardinals are up next, led by Mudville.
