2013 DBN Mock Draft: Arizona Cardinals Select OG Chance Warmack at No. 7

USA TODAY Sports

With the seventh pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select...

Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama

This selection and write-up was made by Mudville:

This is a tough spot to be in now with the way this draft has played out. With the seventh pick in this year's draft, the Arizona Cardinals are not jumping the gun on a quarterback, instead choosing to draft offensive guard Chance Warmack out of Alabama.

Yeah, Yeah -- Arizona needs a quarterback, but Kevin Kolb is salvageable and led the team to a great start last year before he was injured. Kolb does run a slight risk of being a cap casualty, but no matter who the starting quarterback is next year, his play will improve with an upgraded offensive line. Arizona's line was just dreadful last year. Out of all 32 teams in the league, they had the fewest rushes, rushing yards, and rushing yards per attempt. They also gave up a league-high 58 sacks! The lack of a running game and the fact that the "flavor of the week" under center was running for his life every week led to Arizona's quarterbacks leading the league in interceptions.

Despite selecting three offensive linemen in last year's draft, two of whom were starting by year's end (contributing to aforementioned problems), Arizona needs to select another offensive lineman. With Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher already off the board, Arizona should go with Warmack over Lane Johnson, as Levi Brown is expected to return from injury. Warmack was consistent on tape the last two years and has blocked for pro-level running backs in Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy. He had great games against competition such as LSU, as well as the national championship game against Notre Dame, proving he can play well in big games. He created huge running lanes for Alabama's backfield and is equally as solid in pass protection.

This pick gives Arizona a much-needed overall upgrade to its meager offensive capabilities. Warmack will allow Arizona to move out of the basement in yards-per-carry, will give Arizona's quarterback more time to throw the ball to Larry Fitzgerald, and run more productive screen passes. They can look to select a quarterback in round two since all are still on the board at this point.

"Kolb is salvageable?" I don't think so.

The Cardinals' offense has been in disarray since Kurt Warner retired, and I honestly don't know how to fix that. There is hope on the horizon, considering the turnaround that Bruce Arians was able to install in Indianapolis last season, but he also had a promising young quarterback under center. Warmack seems like an acceptable pick for Arizona, though, as their defense should continue to rise to the occasion, even in the absence of Ray Horton.

The Buffalo Bills are up next, led by Stigosaurus.
