We are less than one week away from the NFL Draft and less than five months away from the start of the regular season, but that hasn't stopped the oddsmakers from already setting the early lines. With the Cleveland Browns set to host the Miami Dolphins to open the season, OddsShark has declared the Dolphins as 1.5 point favorites.
The last time the Browns faced the Dolphins came in 2011, when Cleveland hosted Miami. The Browns picked up their second win under the reign of then-head coach Pat Shurmur, thanks to a last-minute touchdown pass from Colt McCoy to Mohamed Massaquoi. Two years later, McCoy is a backup quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers, while Massaquoi will compete for a roster spot with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Home teams typically start as the favorites to open the season, but that's not always the case. Last year, the Browns were nine point underdogs to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Browns have had difficulty winning their openers since returning to the league in 1999. Still there is a long way to go until opening day. Based on what happens in the draft, training camp, and the preseason, we'll see if the Browns are able to open up as favorites when everything is all said and done.
