2013 NFL Draft: Round 1 Recap and Grades

Round 1 of the 2013 NFL Draft is officially in the books. We all know who the Browns took, so lets take a look at the rest of Round 1.

Al Bello

Last night wrapped up the 1st round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Below is each pick from last night's first round, as well as my grade and one-line comments.

Round 1:

Pick Team Player Position School Grade My one-line comments
1 Kansas City Chiefs Eric Fisher OT Central Michigan B+ Athletic for his size, concerns with playing in MAC, best OT IMO.
2 Jacksonville Jaguars Luke Joeckel OT Texas A&M B Next best OT, fills need, solid pickup.
3 Miami Dolphins Dion Jordan OLB Oregon B- Didn't give up a whole lot to move up, I really like Jordan, Fins wanted in top-10, bad.
4 Philadelphia Eagles Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma B- Crazy athletic, hope he gets a look at QB, lotta holes elsewhere though.
5 Detroit Lions Ezekiel Ansah DE BYU A Freak athlete, fills need, real nice pick here, concerns about adjustment but oh well.
6 Cleveland Browns Barkevious Mingo OLB LSU A- Would've personally preferred a trade back, given the situation best we could do, I'll take it.
7 Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Cooper G North Carolina A+ I loved Cooper, may be high for an OG, but if he's your guy, take em.
8 St. Louis Rams Tavon Austin WR West Virginia A Traded up for their guy, Austin is gonna turn heads in the League.
9 New York Jets Dee Milliner CB Alabama C Replaces Revis (so he says), never was crazy about Milliner, could've gone pass rusher.
10 Tennessee Titans Chance Warmack G Alabama C Again, high for an OG, I like Warmack, but other needs could've been addressed.
11 San Diego Chargers D.J. Fluker OT Alabama C+ Another OT, need O-line help bad, next.
12 Oakland Raiders D.J. Hayden CB Houston A+ Lead people to think they were taking him #3, bailed, added picks. LOVE this pick.
13 New York Jets Sheldon Richardson DT Missouri B+ I graded Richardson really high, not sure he's what they needed, but will be a solid player.
14 Carolina Panthers Star Lotulelei DT Utah A- Fell right in their laps, fills a big need, cleared medically (hope it turns out well).
15 New Orleans Saints Kenny Vaccaro S Texas B+ I had Jones here, thought LB was a bigger need, but Vaccaro is probably best S in class.
16 Buffalo Bills E.J. Manuel QB Florida St. C- I was high on Manuel, but not at 16, sort of a head-scratcher?
17 Pittsburgh Steelers Jarvis Jones OLB Georgia F Just because. (He fills a need perfect fit system wise, scary spinal stenosis, but is cleared to play, we'll see...)
18 San Francisco 49ers Eric Reid S LSU B Niners wanted to move up badly, and they did, filled a need, nice pickup.
19 New York Giants Justin Pugh OT Syracuse D Mayock says he is good despite short arms, whatever, don't like it.
20 Chicago Bears Kyle Long G Oregon B Good bloodline, can play G and T, fills need, done.
21 Cincinnati Bengals Tyler Eifert TE Notre Dame B+ Ugh, do not want to play against him for the next 5 years.
22 Atlanta Falcons Desmond Trufant CB Washington B+ Fills a big need, and they got the guy the wanted.
23 Minnesota Vikings Sharrif Floyd DT Florida A+ Guy was rated top-10 on most big boards, ton of value in this pick.
24 Indianapolis Colts Bjoern Werner DE Florida St. B+ Added a good pass rusher, I liked Werner, good value I think.
25 Minnesota Vikings Xavier Rhodes CB Florida St. A Love this pick, he's a big (literally) time CB, couldn't been top-15, nice value.
26 Green Bay Packers Datone Jones DE UCLA A I had Datone Jones higher than some, and I think he's a really good fit in GB, rich get richer.
27 Houston Texans DeAndre Hopkins WR Clemson A Not the fastest WR, but my word he's a good football player, was really high on him, and pair him with Andre Johnson? Yikes.
28 Denver Broncos Sylvester Williams DT North Carolina B Good player, quick for his size, good overall pick.
29 Minnesota Vikings Cordarrelle Patterson WR Tennessee F- WAY too much given up, he may be a good WR for years to come, but they got hustled by New England.
30 St. Louis Rams Alec Ogletree MLB Georgia B Some off-the-field questions, Fisher doesn't mind, nice pick.
31 Dallas Cowboys Travis Frederick C Wisconsin D Needed O-line help, and Wisconsin chugs out O-linemen, but Dallas traded back after passing on O-linemen and then took this guy? I don't get it.
32 Baltimore Ravens Matt Elam S Florida B+ Not overly gifted athletically, but a good player and fills a BIG need, typical Ravens pick.

So faithful DBN followers. Who had the best first round? Who had the best/worst picks? Discuss in the comments.

We'll get the open thread started a little later. Day 2 of the Draft starts tonight!

Go Browns.
