2013 NFL Draft: Cleveland Browns pick CB Leon McFadden at No. 68 Overall

USA TODAY Sports

After a long wait on Friday night, having forfeited their second-rounder last summer for Josh Gordon, the Cleveland Browns have finally addressed the need at defensive back in the third round.

With the No. 68 overall pick the Browns selected CB Leon McFadden out of San Diego State, making him Cleveland's second defensive player drafted this year.

McFadden is likely to immediately compete with 2011 fifth-round pick Buster Skrine for a starting role across from Joe Haden. McFadden isn't a terribly large or physical corner, measuring in at 5'10'', 193 lbs, but he's considered to have great awareness and quick feet.

NFL Combine Results:

  • 40 Yard Dash: 4.54 seconds
  • Bench Press: 10 reps
  • Vertical: 34.5"
  • Broad Jump: 119"
  • 3 Cone Drill: 6.81 seconds
  • 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.27 seconds

Here's how NFL.com described the bottom line with McFadden:

McFadden's a tenacious three-time All-Mountain West selection possessing the strength, quickness, attitude, and ball skills required of NFL starters, even if his size is not ideal to handle the physicality of veteran wideouts. Many shorter corners who play with similar strength and temperament have succeeded at the next level, which will help him nail down top-75 grades from scouts.
