2013 DBN Mock Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select Xavier Rhodes at No. 25

USA TODAY Sports

With the 25th pick in the 2013 Dawgs By Nature NFL Community Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select...

Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State

This selection and write-up was made by Legoman0721:

After doing some more digging, I realized that nobody can agree on what order the cornerbacks in this draft will go after Milliner. As I mentioned in the last pick writeup, the Vikings need some help defending the pass. With a premium pass rusher on board already, it's time to look at the back end of their defense and help shore it up. When you play in the NFC North, you have to have a good pass defense to survive every year. I think a big CB like Rhodes will really help to defend the Megatron/Marshall type of receiver that the Vikings see so often. He's a big, strongly built CB that matches up well against big receivers, and he's a very talented player with surprising quickness for his size. I think he's the best of the big corners that are in this year's draft class.

I can't say for sure where he will be listed on the depth chart, but I think that by the end of the season Rhodes will be covering the other team's biggest receiver. (This assumes that he stays healthy, which is a legitimate concern with Rhodes.) This will help his fellow DBs by effectively bumping them down the depth chart and allowing them to cover lesser receivers that they match up better with.

I also strongly considered a DT such as Sylvester Williams, but I think that there is still enough depth at that position left in our draft for the Vikings to wait for their next pick to fill that void.

Even though he covered his logic about not going with an offensive player at No. 23 overall due to the Vikings having Adrian Peterson, isn't it a little funny that the one-man show on offense can't get some help, despite Minnesota having two first-round picks? The Vikings have a lot of flexibility with two picks so close to each other, and no matter what they do, they should be able to get some nice value.

The Green Bay Packers are up next, led by Jon Stinchcomb.
